Saying Goodbye to 2017

Christmas is next week! Can you believe it? Where did the month go? I can’t wait to relax with family over the next week, but I’m honestly ready to say goodbye to 2017. This has been a very challenging year for us. There were several heart wrenching moments, one of which was losing my brother, but we made the best of each circumstance as a family. If I’ve relearned anything this year, it’s that life is very imperfect, but we can create a beautiful masterpiece from those imperfections. We’ve also got to step back and enjoy this crazy ride!

Ryan and I accomplished so much around our fixer upper this year, and I’m really thrilled with the progress. We significantly increased our usable square footage downstairs, completed my craft room, rebuilt our front porch, renovated our bedroom closet, and so much more. We really knocked out the to-do list! I can’t wait to share all of the projects we are planning for 2018. I’m just super excited about it!

We also managed to have some fun between renovating, work, and life. We visited Hawaii with my grandmother and celebrated the life of the man I called Papa. Ryan and I traveled back to California for a week. We had so much fun enjoying each other and visiting our favorite spots. We made trips to the botanical gardens, the aquarium, Nashville, and the Great Smoky Mountains. We are just so fortunate to have had the opportunity to do so many wonderful things together.

As the year comes to a close, I can’t help but think of those I’ve lost. I’m cherishing the memories I have with each of them this holiday season. I hope my actions reflect their hopes and dreams. I hope I make them proud! I am so very thankful to be here and to have an amazing partner through the highs and lows. Lord knows I need him! There’s a new country song that has really tugged at my heart this season, and the lyrics are below. I have found myself wishing for five more minutes more often as time keeps flying by so quickly. So, I’m going to give myself some extra minutes with those I love over the next week. I’m stepping away from it all until next year.

Merry Christmas to you and those you love! Hold them tight this holiday season, and let your cares melt away!

Lyrics: Five More Minutes
Eight years old a couple cane poles sitting down by the creek
Our lines in the water watching those bobbers seeing that red sun sink
Mama’s on the porch yelling supper’s hot, y’all come and get it
We yelled five more minutes
At sixteen it was twelve o three standing at her front door
Katie’s dad said midnight, but we needed just a little more
Yellow light flipping on and off, interrupting that goodnight kissing
We wanted five more minutes
Time rolls by the clock don’t stop
I wish I had a few more drops
Of the good stuff, the good times
Oh but they just keep on flying
Right on by like it ain’t nothing
Wish I had me a pause button
Moments like those Lord knows I’d hit it
And give myself five more minutes
At eighteen turned my helmet in and walked to the fifty yard line
Just the coach and me after we lost eighteen to nine
And I cried man next time to get in here I’ll have to buy a ticket
Can’t you give me five more minutes
Time rolls by the clock don’t stop
I wish I had a few more drops
Of the good stuff, the good times
Oh but they just keep on flying
Right on by like it ain’t nothing
Wish I had me a pause button
Moments like those Lord knows I’d hit it
And give myself five more minutes
At eighty-six my grandpa said there’s angels in the room
All the family gathered ’round knew the time was coming soon
With so much left to say I prayed Lord I ain’t finished
Just give us five more minutes
Time rolls by the clock don’t stop
I wish I had a few more drops
Of the good stuff, the good times
Oh but they just keep on flying
Right on by like it ain’t nothing
Wish I had me a pause button
Moments like those Lord knows I’d hit it
Yeah sometimes this old life will leave you wishing
That you had five more minutes
Five more minutes
